Hearst Academy of Martial Arts
This martial arts school offers expert instruction with traditional methods in Filipino Martial Arts. Their objective is to use Martial Arts as a vehicle for ‘self’ development by individuals of all ages as a means to enhance quality of life. The Academy wanted an identity that would convey a consistent, confident and wise message to their clientele.
The Design
We started with the logo, and the challenge was to capture the essence of this grass-roots-ancient-martial-art-academy, and it’s wise and experience owner. William Hearst, the owner of The Hearst Academy has a dragon birth symbol according to Chinese calendar; so the dragon was born. Next was a beautiful and powerful blue to work with, and we carried variations of this colour into the style guide. We added ghosted dragon tails in motion to the background of the blue to reenforce the dragon and add life to the position of the dragon. The font choice showcased wisdom, and strength.
